5 out of 5 stars Well done!   July 10, 2007

I loved this book although I was enormously amused that I had discovered a few of these techniques (and variations on others) on my own about a year ago. Ms. Mika, however, has far expanded on anything I ever did with my own clay experiments. I have already successfully combined some of my own techniques with the ones she describes in such wonderful detail.

The truth is that this is an enormously satisfying and surprising kind of artwork. In many ways, the results can be very serendipitous but always satisfying. There were many times I finished a piece and thought "wow, I didn't know it would look quite that way but I love how it worked out!" But, if you aren't satisfied with the result, just cut the work into smaller pieces and use them as filler tiles because sometimes what looks less than perfect on a larger scale looks completely perfect when fragmented.

If you let yourself go and become less controlling about this process (it was hard for me at first because I am normally such a precise person who wants to manage every detail) you will find yourself with almost childlike amazement at which you can produce.

The book is a must have for anyone who wants to do some fabulous things with polymer clay. High fives to Laurie Mika!

I was lucky enough to take a class with Laurie Mika not too long ago and she's just as generous in sharing her techniques and tips in her book as she was in class. She doesn't hold anything back and is truly giving of her art and herself in this book. Laurie walks you through the entire process with the photos and written descriptions but also provides several inspiration points and gallery pieces throughout the book that helped give me insight into her as an artist and provided my own inspiration and insight to what I wanted to create. I love this book and have been making tiles since I got it!

I ordered this book because I thought it might be interesting and I was looking for an interesting craft/art book fr a little inspiration. I play with clay occsaionally, but this book makes me wants to pull everything out and play for hours. Who'd have thought you could make such gorgeous tiles from clay? I never thought of some of these ideas, nor seen them elswhere. High Recommend.

This book will not disappoint! Laurie Mika's art work is so colorful and unique, it will make you want to grab your supplies and immediately begin trying some of the techniques discussed in this book. Numerous, clear, large, detailed photos and the accompanying text provide a perfect tutorial for getting started.

Whether you are interested in polymer clay for making jewelry pieces or mosaics, I highly recommend this book!
