5 out of 5 stars Inspiring springboard   December 29, 2003

So many beadmakers cite this book as the one that got them into the art of lampworking. I'm there with them. A friend loaned me this book about three years ago and we've been learning and having fun with glass and fire ever since. This is an *excellent* book to begin with. Clearly written and nicely photographed with plenty of variety in beadmakers' styles, this is a wonderful entry-level book. I've added other lampworking books to my shelves, but I would never give this one up. If my friend wants it back I'll just have to buy another.

5 out of 5 stars 'Making Glass Beads' - Essential   December 28, 2003

This book is an excellent how-to for making beads. The book has the right amount of information, is easy to understand, and has wonderful pictures that depict what the step-by-step instructions are telling you. Not only that, but each page has five or so images of work by other well known beadmakers. Anyway, author Cindy Jenkins covers most beadmaking techniques, from stringer to frit, from hollow to sculpted beads, from tools to torches. 'Making Glass Beads' is essential for beginners and an excellent reference for pros.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book   December 4, 2003

In reading this book I've been I've been very pleased with the quality and calrity of Cindy's writing style. I've used it to teach myself beadmaking. With no prior glass experience of any kind I was able to use her book begin. Her instructions on equipment, how to make basic shapes, and advanced topics gave me more than enough encouragement to get started. I've been at it about a month now and am making good quality beads. I don't think this would be possible without this fantastic book.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for the Beginning or Experienced Bead Maker   November 18, 2003

This book was full of great details for the beginning glass bead maker. Additionally, the photos are outstanding and cover a wide variety of bead styles and complexities. The pictures alone make this book worth the price.

Perusing the craft aisles of our local (Western Colorado) hobby store, I came across this book. I immediately took it to lunch and read the first chapter.

Gorgeous pictures
Great history, descriptions
Clear instructions and hints in techniques

Inspired, my next stop was the "big" hardware store. Armed with pages 11 to 17 I located the basics. I still need other resources for appropriate tools and supplies. Please forward to the author and other sources. Regards, Cece Mac Vitte
