5 out of 5 stars HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Wonderful section on Limoges porcelain!   December 7, 2003
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

The Antique Trader is the best overall porcelain VALUE GUIDE on the market today! The author collaborated with the experts in the field and come up with a book that is invaluable to the collector. Debby DuBay's section on antique Limoges porcelain is wonderful! Nora Travis did an excellent job on Haviland and Dorothy Kamm did a great job with painted pieces. Much better than Kovel's for the money. I highly recommend the Antique Trader's 4th ed with updated 2004 values.

5 out of 5 stars Much improved overall guide to pottery & porcelain   November 7, 2003

This 4th edition of the Antique Trader pottery & porcelain price guide is well worth getting even if, like me, you have the 3rd edition already. The 4th edition has added categories and expanded its listings under each, and best of all has tons of pictures. Although they're in black and white the photos make it so much easier to recognize and identify styles, makers and specific pieces if you're looking up an item. Some of the categories have very limited entries but in general I think the editor did an excellent job of trying to cover a very broad range of collectibles in one volume. I know that one of the above reviewers criticized the book because they didn't list all of Royal Doulton -- I have a price list book that only covers the Royal Doulton figurines, and it's almost 500 pages! If you're very into one company or type of pttery/porcelain you need to get a reference book particular to that kind. For a general overview of a large genre, I would heartily recommend this book.

2 out of 5 stars Personally, I shouldn't have bothered   April 25, 2002

I found this book to be very limited and incomplete. Of the dozen or so items I looked up, it had listed two. Even such catagories as well documented as Royal Doulton were incomplete, leaving me guessing as to the value of my pieces. I really wouldnt recommend this to anyone.

4 out of 5 stars 3rd Edition of A Classic Pottery & Porcelain Ceramics Guide   August 24, 2000
35 out of 35 found this review helpful

Updated version of the useful guidebook, containing 390 pages, with more than 1,200 black and white photos and a 16 page full color section. There are 125 sketches of markings, for reference. Year 2000 pricing is provided, along with collecting guidelines, and a glossary of terms. The book is completely indexed for easy reference. Topics range from Austrian, Doulton, Harker, to UHL, Warwick and Zsolnay. Each topic is described. The volume is an easy to use reference work. With its handy size, you'll want to keep it with you when you antique. Add it to your library.
