5 out of 5 stars For lovers of Homer Laughlin china, and lovers of American china in general   September 22, 2008
The gentleman who authored this book must have an exhaustive collection of Homer Laughlin; I have read most of what he wrote in his efforts to track down different obscure patterns, and I can only imagine that he devoted most of his waking moments to nothing other than Homer Laughlin. His enthusiasm concerning different patterns is infectious; after what he said about the 'Sunporch' pattern, it became my Holy Grail, and when I finally found a piece in an out of the way antique store in Iowa, I pounced upon it as though fearful that someone would swoop it out from under my grasp. He went to great lengths to research as many patterns as possible; visited old Homer Laughlin storerooms and malls; and generally put so much effort into this book that I really wish I could see his collection. He speaks with reverence of the line; is extremely knowledgeable concerning dating techniques and possibilities of finding different patterns; and presents each pattern so beautifully that the entire Homer Laughlin line has become something of an obsession for me. This book is so concise, also, that it has aided me in second guessing established antiques dealers. Because his research is so extensive, I have found a few pieces at ridiculously low prices, simply because the dealer had no idea what they had. I've nearly worn my copy of this book out, and cannot recommend it enough for the collector truly interested in Homer Laughlin china.

This is the most useful guide to collectable china that I have found. It is not only an exhaustive reference guide to Homer Laughlin's "Virginia Rose", but provides much information about other types of china as well. This book provides details and information that you can't find elsewhere.
