Not about dinnerware; by Garth Clark and Margie Hughto December 4, 2007 First I'd like to point out that this book is about ceramics, the art, not china and dinnerware. It was in fact produced to accompany a show of the same name which appeared in 1979 at the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, NY, and then at the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., in 1980. Margie Hughto and Garth Clark curated the exhibition.
If you are looking to identify antique dinner plates, creamers, vases and the like, you should probably look elsewhere (that was in fact my aim, to identify old china and pottery shards). If you are interested in ceramic artists and the development of the art, with illustrations (mostly B&W) and information about history and style, this may be what you are looking for. The text approaches the art chronologically first, and then almost 80 pages of short biographies, from Russell Aitken to William Wyman, and a substantial bibliography. Good luck!
