Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
In the hands of an expert ceramist, the once-simple cup can become an extraordinary work of art--as these 500 magnificent examples so beautifully prove. The exciting pieces come from an international array of artists, each with a unique perspective. The stylishly varied collection has a little bit of everything: the cups range from handbuilt to wheel-thrown, practical to sculptural, round to square. Benjamin Schulman's "Stacked Teacup Set" takes a strictly functional approach, while Heather O'Brien's "Dessert Cups on Stand" focuses on aesthetic form rather than usefulness. Annette Gates' "Espresso Shot Cups with Rubies" has a surface design of simple abstract lines and dots of glaze and jewels. Some are whimsical, others starkly conceptual. Every one is a treat for the eye.

5 out of 5 stars Great Gift!   October 20, 2008
As a potter... I received this as a gift for Christmas and I love to look at all the ideas that people have created. It has a great variety of different shapes and sizes. Also, the most important part of a piece, the glaze work is awesome.

It has really helped stimulate ideas for myself.

5 out of 5 stars Ahhh...refreshing   October 1, 2008
As one whose creativity needs a nudge, I love this book.

They are many admirable and (important for me) inspiring pieces pictures. I tabbed many pages with "I want to try that" and rekindled a love of pottery, particulary of course of cups and mugs.

The variety of cups shown is very wide: Simplic, lavishly decorated, purely artistic, functional, etc. The artist statement that accompanies many is also nice, as it explains many themed cup sets.

5 out of 5 stars Stunning!   July 15, 2008
This book, like all the "500" books I have seen, is utterly beautiful. I find it inspiring both visually and conceptually. The chosen subjects are thought provoking and artistically sumptuous examples of ceramic art.
Wheather you put it on your coffee table or in the studio, it is another "must have" from the Lark 500 series.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent reference   March 19, 2008
Beautifully presented, with 500 timeless ideas and references. If you are a potter and looking for inspiration - this book is a gold mine.

5 out of 5 stars great idea book   January 9, 2007

I bought this for a pottery student of mine after she bought the teapot book. Both are great fodder for the potter's imagination, and for me, a wonderful set of examples that get me away from the idea that my own pottery has to be as "perfect" as a wedgwood teacup. The pitcher book will be the next to grace the shelves of my studio library.
