Anyone who has ever marveled over Katherine Dewey’s amazing creations has wondered, "How did she do that?" With more than 400 step-by-step photographs in full color plus 200 detailed drawings, Dewey teaches how to sculpt realistic figures in any scale using her simple applique approach. 5 out of 5 stars The best polymere book on the market.   November 29, 2008
This is the best sculpture instruction book on the market. Don't buy any others all you need is theis one. The book starts out with instructions on how to make tools to assist in your sculpture journey. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. Ms. Dewey even adds information on how to use the tools. Then on to the sculpture itself. All the information is included starting with how to make a foil base to how to measure out the amount of clay to use. Ms. Dewey takes a daunting subject and breaks it down so that anyone can have success. I can hardly wait to get to my studio to work now that I have this book as a teacher resouce and guide.

Katherine Dewey has done a great job of breaking the process of creating lifelike figures into small, easily understood steps.
Bravo!
An excellent book for beginners and more advanced readers.

5 out of 5 stars Really great book.   November 27, 2008

If you're interested in sculpting in polymer clay, there's really no excuse for not having Katherine's book on your shelf. This book is clearly written, with great photographs and tons of invaluable information, from making our own tools to basic anatomy and proportions to the distinctions of race, ethnicity, and age.

I doubt that there's anybody who knows more about sculpting with polymer clays such as Sculpey and Fimo, and this book gives you all the information you need to get started, including precise information about the relative masses of various body parts and lots of techniques for accomplishing common tasks.

I initially avoided this book, thinking it was a book about making fairies, which didn't appeal to me. I had the opportunity to look through a friend's copy at one point, and realized I was depriving myself of a great resource for foolish reason. I bought the book the next day. As long as you're interested in sculpting humans, or human-like figures using polymer clay, this book is a must-have for you.
