Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
If all craft books were as attractive, brilliantly conceived, and downright amusing as this one, the craft world would be a better place. Glorious projects, beautiful photos, thorough instructions, and terrific coverage of all the groundwork make for lovely viewing, enjoyable reading, and endless inspiration.

Master decoupeur Durwin Rice is not only a true artist with scissors and glue, he's a lively writer whose sense of humor and deft handling of the subject makes even the most mundane tasks (like surface preparation or sealing a finished piece) sound like fun. He debunks the obsessiveness with which "Old Decoupage" was created and which still puts off some would-be decoupeurs today, such as the tendency to apply 30 or more coats of sealant ("You want to protect your work from scratches--not Hurricane Andrew") or the inclination for fanatical cutting ("You are master of the image, not the image of you"). He covers all manner and size of objects with his wondrous creations: plates, vases, trays, eggs, tables, cabinets, walls, ceilings, even the refrigerator. Clearly this is a man obsessed, not with the needlessly labor-intensive approach of yesteryear, but with the urge to decoupage the world. This is not only a lesson on how to create spectacular decoupage; it's a lesson on how to produce a masterful craft book. --Amy Handy

Product Description
Get ready to take decoupage way beyond its Victorian image. Contemporary decoupage works are made with family photos, magazine clippings, handmade papers, or any other image that strikes the artist’s fancy. Decoupage is a great way to get your cherished memories out of the scrapbook and on display, using them to make over flea-market finds and create one-of-a-kind furniture and accessories for your home.

After a brief history of the art and a review of the fundamental techniques of modern decoupage, author Durwin Rice offers complete instructions for more than 18 unique projects, both simple and more ambitious, from a delicate vase to a dining room table. You can also transform entire rooms by decoupaging doorways, mantels, and even ceilings.

New Decoupage offers a truly fresh take on this traditional craft, demonstrating how a few simple materials–paper, glue, and scissors–will enable you to create stylish home accents that transform your surroundings into works of art.

4 out of 5 stars Impressive but I returned it   May 12, 2008

This was a truly beautiful book, full of terrific instructions, but it didn't suit my purpose of teaching crafts to senior citizens. I was looking for group projects instead of expensive, individual works of art.

5 out of 5 stars This book CHANGED MY LIFE!!! ..for the BETTER!!!   February 7, 2008

Years ago I discovered this book in its original hardback version. New Decoupage was a breath of fresh air to the entire world of decoupage !..This was the first ever book where I have experienced making the art of decoupage a FUN journey!! Mr Rice also has a creative eye that feeds the soul, opens creative eyes to a world of possibilities while generously sharing his genius with wit and making the entire experience comfortable.
This book made me want to try new things and have FUN while learning. . I can now testify that I am a successful decoupage artist and my work is making people HAPPY!! I had never ever known that all of this creativity was locked inside of me until NEW DECOUPAGE manifested itself in my life!! ...I even loaned out my last copy and somehow it was not returned. It was such a thrill to see that we can get this TREASURE now in a paperback version....a portable version. Even though Mr Rice on his website had expressed that it was the same text as the original.....when I received my new Paperback version ....I spent hours just absorbing how wonderful this book was!! New things will be discovered on EVERY journey into New Decoupage and I cannot even begin to express how grateful I am that an entire new audience will now be exposed to this Book of Wonder!!

This book is an exact copy of his 1998 "New Decoupage" but in paperback form with a new cover. I was very disappointed and am returning mine today.,
